Climate Polluters Must Be Held Accountable for the Damage in Mannar
Mannar is among the four districts most affected by climate change in Sri Lanka. Fishing communities across the region are reporting declining catches, saline intrusion into farmland, and the steady loss of livelihoods that have sustained them for generations.
These adverse changes are driven by decades of emissions from a small number of fossil fuel companies whose activities continue largely unchecked. Communities in Mannar are now documenting this damage directly, building a public record of what is being lost and what is at stake.
The companies responsible for driving this crisis must be held accountable, and must contribute to the cost of the damage already done.
